On June 1, 2004, I retired early from the personal chair of Discourse Studies (Tekstwetenschap) at the University of Amsterdam.

I continue to be a visiting professor, since 1999, at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, and also teach graduate (master and PhD) classes there.
